Sacre Bleu!!

The English created bubbly!!!

For years the invention of Champagne has been attributed to Benedictine monk Dom Perignon, shown above. Now new research suggest that it was British scientist Christopher Merrett who first invented the process and bottle for making Champagne. The Daily Mail reports that Merrett used techniques from the cider industry to control the second fermentation which adds the fizz and he also pioneered the use of stronger glass needed to prevent the bottle exploding. He gave a paper to the Royal Society in 1662 describing a process of adding sugar and molasses to make a wine taste sparkling. This was over 30 years before Dom Perignon's work at the Abbey of Hautvillers at Epernay. The research comes from author James Crowden, whose new book, Ciderland, looks at the history of cider in the West Country.

Kuwait PD jumping on the retro chic bandwagon

Posted on Sep 04 2008
Car sales are not going uphill and it is always good news if someone, in this case another goverment comes and orders 150 cars.
A Kuwaiti delegation visited the U.S. to inspect and approve the upfitting of 150 Dodge Charger police vehicles purchased by the Ministry of Interior. Selection of the 2008 Dodge Chargers was a natural choice; Charger is the number one volume vehicle for Chrysler LLC in the Middle East.
During their four-day trip to Detroit, the delegation officials visited the Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich., and experienced the performance of the Charger police units at a ride-and-drive at the Company’s Chelsea (Mich.) Proving Grounds.
“Reflecting an image of strength and power is important for our law enforcement officials and the Dodge Charger portrays this image to the Kuwaiti people,” says Deputy Ministry of Interior, Musaed S. Al-Guwainem. “The Charger police cars are being customized with the necessary equipment for three different government vehicles – traffic, security and emergency response – where speed, handling and functionality are critical to their job.”
